You can either do the work yourself, or you can pay a company or individual to do it for you. When I take on a new website to promote, it is generally because the client does not have either the time or the know-how to promote their site.

If you decide to start looking for an SEO company in the UK, then you will need to make a few decisions. Google and other search engines have the job of providing their customers with what they want - which is information on a variety of subjects. Unless the customer has the correct address of a website he is interested in then he must use another method to find what he is looking for.

This, of course, is when he will search for the chosen topic or product by entering a phrase or word. This works fabulously well and with a little persistence, almost any information on any subject at all can be found. All very nice for our customer but what about the owners of websites? It is not unusual for a search term to bring up over a million choices where the customer can surf to his hearts content. Great! if every time he hits the enter button, it’s your site that comes up top of the list. I doubt that is happening or you wouldn’t be reading this information.

So how does a search engine decide who goes where?

In very general terms, there are two types of search engines. The first type will chiefly use what is known as a ‘crawler’ or ’spider’ system. The second type mainly uses a ‘human directory system’ here website marketers submit a short description of their website and once a search has been entered a search will be made on these descriptions. Many search engines use a combination of these two to a greater or lesser degree. However, for the purpose of this article we will concentrate mainly on the first type.

Search engines such as Google use crawler or spider search engines. In effect the spider will visit every web page in turn and will examine such things as page title, body copy and links as well as other criteria. The spider will return on a regular basis to check to see if there are any changes within the pages. For each website the spider runs through all the pages following the internal links, thus, reading every page.

What the spider finds out about the website is then transferred to the search engines index or catalogue. This is where the search engine software looks when someone enters a search term. When a new website is published it will only, at first, be accessible via the web address. Until the information is indexed the search engine will be unable to perform a search. This can take some time to happen sometimes weeks, sometimes months.

Once a word or phrase has been entered the search engine software goes to the index running through millions and millions of pages looking for matches to the search. It then produces lists of what, it believes, is relevant information and shows them to the searcher.

This process is done following a set of special rules called ‘algorithm’ (the exact formula used by any search engine is a closely guarded secret) all are different but operating within the same basic rules.

Let’s look at some of these.

Keywords

The criteria for keywords involves both location and frequency on a web page. The search engine will look at the title of the site and if the relevant search term appears there the site will get a little star. The metatag (description) will be checked for the relevant term - if it’s there another little star is awarded. Within the body of the page if the word appears near the top and throughout also near the bottom another little star is awarded. All very simple really, except that there are millions of websites all competing for little stars. Nevertheless, this is still important stuff.

There really is no difference between a human and a search engine trying to find a topic, both are looking for clarity, it’s just that the search engine can’t use emotions and judgment it can only rely on what the words say.

Once upon a time when the internet was younger, just by repeating the term lots and lots of times on a page was enough to send sites up the ranks. That is not so now. More and more search engines have the ability to check that the content is of good quality and by just repeating a word in a random manner will do no good whatsoever.

Off Page Ranking

The most important part of this process is linking. To illustrate this - you are a film producer and you have a great story and ask lots of unknown actors to appear in your film once it’s finished you find it’s only vaguely successful at the box office. Now, you have another great story and you invite a few very well known actors to star in the film - this time it’s a great success - why? because you are inviting celebrities and not unknowns to star in the film. Linking works much the same way. It’s very important to get other web sites to link to you and vice versa but if you can link to well known sites that, for example, Google already likes, sites with high quality content and loads of traffic, then, the search engine will surmise that you are a fairly important website and should be considered for a higher rank.

Also if a lower ranked website is receiving lots of ‘click through’s and is obviously becoming popular, the search engine may well decide to lower a high ranking website and give more credence to the lower ranking site.

Unfortunately, this is all a bit of a balancing act and the goal posts are constantly changing. But don’t despair there is a lot you can do to get your website where it will be noticed.

I get on average around 10,000 to 12,000 unique visitors
to my main site each month. Actually, when you’re speaking
about the Internet, that’s not too much to brag about, but
it’s better than getting say 1000 or 2000 visitors; that

I said blogs and feeds; I have created simple blogs and feeds
for the major topics of my site: on rss resources, web
hosting solutions, notebook computers, etc. These blogs
and feeds bring in a great number of targeted visitors
to my site.

With the introduction of Google Blog Search, my blog traffic
is increasing even more. Within minutes of posting to my
blog - I am getting targeted traffic from Google. You
are instantly indexed by Google Blog Search; it’s reason
enough for every webmaster to put at least one blog
on their site.

Try to imagine the traffic you’ll get when the next
RSS empowered Windows browser arrives from Microsoft.
Get your own site ready and prepared for RSS to take

2. SEO EMPOWERED Seo optimization should be your
goal! Still the main source of traffic to my site are
the search engines. Mainly from Google, followed by

I have been online since ‘98 so I thought I knew how to
optimize a website. Boy, was I ever wrong! I didn’t notice
a big jump in my traffic until I stumbled across a SEO
expert, actually stumble is the wrong word, I actually sought out
the best SEO expert I could find. His name is Brad Callen.
He offers a free email course on how to optimize your
sites for the search engines. His main product is SEO Elite.

Just the free course and his helpful newsletter have
really fine-tuned my site, which resulted in a major
increase of traffic especially from Google. You should
try the same for your site or sites and see the results
for yourself.

3. ARTICLE EMPOWERED This one works. Article marketing for
me has been the major reason for the turn around in the
amount of traffic my sites were receiving. It’s one of the
most effective ways to get targeted visitors to your site.

Getting your articles published in ezines and on sites
such as addme.com or sitepronews.com will generate an
enormous amount of traffic to your site. As a bonus, you
even get 100’s of subscribers to your own ezine in one day!

The trick is to write helpful how-to articles on current
topics that other webmasters want on their sites, this will
boost your link popularity with the search engines and
increase your rankings. You must also very carefully
choose the right keywords to target in your articles,
matching the content on your site. One way to do this
is with a site like www.nichebot.com — it will show
how to pick the right ‘competitive’ keywords for your
site. You must target keywords that have high traffic,
yet little competition from competing web sites.

My main sources of traffic from article sites include
www.ezinearticles.com and www.buzzle.com.

4. EZINE EMPOWERED Building a large opt-in list or subscribers
to my ezine is another method that brings in a lot of traffic
to my site. You can use an ezine to offer helpful tips to your
subscribers. It is a very easy way to get repeat visitors
to your site and build up a relationship with your visitors.

Your ezine should relate to your site’s theme and offer
more information on the same. Whether you believe it not,
if you operate a site on a particular subject for a couple of
years, you will fast become an expert on that subject.
People will regard you as such and this will also bring
in visitors to your site.

5. VIRAL MARKETING EMPOWERED Another way to attract targeted
visitors is to offer a free product or service. I use free
brandable reports that visitors can download and use. These
reports and ebooks have links back to my sites. One of my most
popular ones is a timely report and guide on how to use and
benefit from RSS on all your sites. It brings in a lot of traffic.

Similar to the one above, I use other free viral techniques to
build targeted traffic to my site. These are products that can
be branded with your links and passed around. Helpful software
programs that match the theme of your site are good choices to
make.

Another popular one that I have on my site is the DATEwise
eCalendar and personal planner that visitors can download and
place on their desktops. It has hotlinks to my site that brings
in traffic. It can be customized with your site’s products so
you get targeted visitors or customers.

OTHER SOURCES There are other sources of traffic for my site that
I find effective but they bring in lesser traffic than the methods
listed above. But they are still worth mentioning, one of these is
regular posting on major online forums. This brings in very good
targeted traffic, so too, is posting comments in online blogs.

Another good source is a traffic exchange called ‘Traffic Swarm’ - most
sites where members exchange traffic don’t work. You get worthless
hits to your site. However, Traffic Swarm is one exception that
your should try. You just set your start page to this exchange, and
click on sites you want to visit.

Increasing targeted traffic to your site is an ongoing struggle
for every webmaster. I hope you can try some of the techniques
that have worked for me. I am sure they will also work for you.

Now, let’s get to the differences between Spinning Fishing and Fly Fishing. First of all, in terms of Rods, in Spinning Fishing a fisherman typically a 6 1/2 foot spin rod and an ultralight spin reel that has about 200 yards of level 6 pound test monofilament line. The lure (or bait) is tied directly onto this line. The casting of this line would be done with a fisherman holding the spinning rod at about a 10:00 position in front of him, and then he uses his wrist to bring the tip of the rod back to the 12:30 position; then, with a snap of his (or her) wrist, the rod would quickly be brought back to the 10:00 position. At the same time, he straightens his index finger, which has been crooked around the line. The flex of the rod snaps the lure (or bait) off into space, pulling the line smoothly off the reel.

The lure’s (or bait) trajectory (or flight) is slowed by air resistance and gravity, about sixty feet away, and it hits the water with a gentle splat. The fisherman (or woman) then retrieves his (or her) line and brings the lure (or bait) back into shore or into a boat and turning a crank on the side of the reel; a mechanical bail gathers the line back onto the reel spool, moving the lure (or bait) through the water with a minnowlike wobble (a minnow is a small type of fish). When the lure (or bait) reaches the boat or shore, he (or she) reels in more line until the lure or bait is hanging a few inches below the tip of the rod. Then the fisherman (or fisherwoman) is ready to cast again.

For those of you who like to catch Smallmouth Bass this article is for you. I’m going to reveal one very effective technique that will help you catch more Smallmouth on your next fishing outing. Not only that, but I will also provide you with some tips that will make you a better angler as well. These simple yet effective tips are easily worth the five minutes it’s going to take you to read this article.

For the purpose of this article, I’m going to focus on fishing for these bass in the current of a river or stream, simply because that’s my area of expertise…river and stream fishing. If you’ve never had the pleasure of hooking and fighting a two to four pound Smallmouth in the flowing waters of a river or stream, let me assure you that it’s as much fun as can be had while clothed! Catching these feisty fish in rivers and streams is a ton of fun.

Let’s begin with the technique. It’s really quite simple. All that you need are some small swivels, split shot sinkers, pre-tied gang hooks, and live worms. I’m going to assume that you’re standing in a river or stream that contains smallmouth bass. Begin by taking the end of your line and tying on a small barrel swivel (size 10 or 12). Now on the opposite end of the barrel swivel, tie on a set of pre-tied gang hooks (size 8 or 10). At this point add split shots above the barrel swivel for weight. Start with two or three, the goal is to have your offering bounce off the bottom as it tumbles naturally with the current. The number and weight of the split shot will have to be adjusted depending on the current. Now simply add a live worm to your gang hooks and your good to go.

The goal is to cast your line parallel to the current, and then let it flow naturally with the current, until the worm is directly below where you are standing. Keep your line taught as it flows with the current, and you should feel it hitting bottom from time to time (getting snagged will happen while using this technique). With a little practice, you’ll quickly be able to tell the difference between a bite and bottom.

The technique just mentioned is an extremely effective technique for smallmouth fishing is rivers and streams. It works quite well for trout also, if you’re interested? Another great tip is to make sure that your on the water fishing when the fish are the most active. How do you know when the fish are the most active? Simple, by paying attention to the weather and moon, and knowing how these two forces of Mother Nature relate to fishing.

The final tip/technique for smallmouth fishing is to use lures that are as realistic as possible. I realize this might sound very sophomoric, but there are fishing lures that are more realistic than others, and using these amazingly realistic fishing lures will increase your catch rates, it’s as simple as that.
